Dialogue Praxis Consulting sprang from a lifetime love of dialogue. The excitement and pleasure found in a group of people coming together to discuss an idea, artwork, philosophy, television show, or any one of the endless topics people talk about daily can be a satisfying, energizing experience.

But, good conversation doesn’t just happen. After years of intensive participation in seminar-style discussions of all kinds we looked back and began to wonder: what makes one seminar work while another fizzles out? How can someone come away from one seminar completely energized and inspired, while walking away from another seminar impatient, frustrated, or just plain bored? And what we came to know is that dialogue is an art and like all art it can be studied for its fundamentals, broken apart for examinations of its underlying structures, and questioned asked and answered about how to build a discussion from the ground up to achieve its maximum potential.

Dialogue Praxis is our answer on how to engage in a successful discussion. Built from a range of accepted social, educational, and psychological pedagogies with deep roots in Socratic seminar, we offer facilitated discussions utilizing a variety of small and large group tools and activities to provide a structure which addresses all kinds of learners and listeners. There is no one right way to take in information; there is no single right answer to an open-ended question. True dialogue involves listening, questioning, making space for all kinds of viewpoints, and committing to respecting the experiences and values of participants in a multi-cultural society.

Dialogue Praxis believes that dialogue in its best form is a collaborative discussion between participants who view themselves as equal contributors with diverse and valuable points of view. Dialogue happens when the structure of mutual respect and valuation allows for the synergy of shared ideas to flow and coalesce as conversation.

Dialogue Praxis. It’s more than just talk.
